The annotation overlay allows you to draw, edit, style, and export custom features directly on your map. It’s ideal for highlighting areas, adding notes, or layering contextual information on top of your base data.
Add on Annotation Overlay
To start working with annotations:
- Select Add Overlay from the layer panel.
- Choose Annotation Overlay from the list of overlay types.
Drawing & Marking Up the Map
Use the configuration to draw different annotation types:
- Select Tool: Select, move, or resize annotations.
→ To stop drawing, switch back to the Select Tool.
→ Use this to choose the annotation you wish to edit. - Pin: Click once to place a pin.
→ Change the display to an icon or circle point in the appearance settings.
→ You can customise the icon, size, and colour. - Line: Click to set a starting point, then click again to add segments. Double-click to finish.
- Polygon: Click to place corners and double-click to finish a multi-sided shape.
- Regular Polygon: Select a shape from the dropdown or enter a custom number of sides. Click to place the centre, drag to resize, and click again to finalise.
- Circle: Click to set the centre, move your mouse to size the shape, then click again to finalise.
- Text: Click to place text on your map.
→ You can edit the font, font size, colour, and outline colour in the Appearance tab.
Editing Annotations
Go to the Appearance tab to adjust:
Once you’ve drawn an annotation:
- Colour, Opacity, and Width for all annotations
- Fill Colour (available for Polygons and Circles)
- Font and Outline (available for Text annotations)
Tooltip
You can create a tooltip for any annotation:
- Go to the Interaction tab
- Click Add Tooltip Template
- Enter the text or dynamic values you want to appear on hover
Data Properties
In the Data tab, you can:
- Add new properties (key-value pairs)
- Edit existing properties
- Use these properties for filtering, styling, or tooltip display
Editing Tools
You can manage how annotations appear on the canvas using the following tools:
- Delete: Remove selected annotations
- Bring to Front: Move the selected annotation to the top layer
- Bring Forward One: Move the annotation one step up
- Send Back One: Move it one step down
- Send to Back: Send it to the bottom layer
- Undo: Reverts the last action
- ️Redo: Reapplies the most recent undone change
- Select All: Selects all annotations on the canvas
Managing Annotation Changes
- Add GeoJSON: Import annotations from your uploaded files. Note: Features must have unique IDs. Existing features will be overwritten if IDs match.
- Download: Export all current annotations on the overlay as a GeoJSON file
